Our teachers

John specialises in teaching young learners and has experience teaching all ages and proficiency levels. In a teaching career spanning over 18 years, John has mastered the skill to engage students by tapping into their needs and interests whilst having real-life conversations to stimulate natural language development. John has been involved in many projects, including the planning and preparation of event days, overseeing and coordinating the development of our ENGLISH CLUB syllabus and teaching on many projects, in both our Learning Centre and at local schools. Prior to joining us in January 2014, John taught English in Taiwan.

BA(Hons), TEFL  

Dean has been working as an English language instructor in Japan and Canada since 1989 and with English for Asia in Macau since 2024. He has taught English to all levels of students ranging from elementary to university as well as corporate business training and classes for immigrants. Dean also served as an assessor for the Canadian Language Benchmarks, responsible for evaluating learners’ English language proficiency across listening, speaking, reading and writing dimensions using national standards.  He encourages students to take an active role in helping to determine their own goals for studying English and believes in providing a great deal of feedback to learners to help them measure if these goals are being met.

M.Ed, MA TESOL, BA

Emmett has been working as an English language instructor in China since 2010. His experience includes teaching conversational English, academic English and business English to a range of levels and proficiencies from kindergarten, primary, junior high school, university and adult. Emmett enjoys seeing students engaged in learning and strives to equip students with learning skills that will help them learn more beyond the classroom. Emmett also enjoys music and singing and often uses this to enliven his lessons and enrich the learning experience for his students.

Angelique has been working as an English language instructor since 2021, with experience in Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Poland. Her experience includes teaching a wide range of ages and levels, from young learners to adults, covering general English, exam preparation, and specialised programmes. Angelique is passionate about teaching and is recognised for her creative and engaging teaching methods. Her responsibilities include planning and delivering lessons, developing curriculum materials, and participating in professional development activities.

BA, CELTA 

Ralisha is an experienced foundation phase educator and ESL teacher with over 5 years of national and international teaching experience across South Africa and China. She specializes in creating lesson plans, assessments, and curricula aligned with CAPS, SA-SAMS, TEFL, and K12 methods, while enhancing student engagement through dynamic teaching strategies and extracurricular activities. Her roles have equipped her with strong skills in teaching young learners, preparing students for competitions, and fostering collaborative learning environments. Ralisha excels at teaching English as a second language, mentoring students academically, and leading activities such as speech competitions and workshops. She is SACE registered and proficient in both online and face-to-face instruction.   

B.Ed, TEFL

Claudia is a dedicated English language educator with a strong focus on young learners. She joined English for Asia in 2019 and has taught communicative English lessons at a variety of kindergartens and primary schools in Macao. Holding certifications including a TESOL, TEYL, and Advanced English (ESOL) from reputable institutions, she actively engages in professional development, having completed various workshops and courses, including those on teaching through drama techniques and the Trinity Stars Drama Award. With extensive teaching experience at English for Asia and Tutor ABC, Claudia tailors her lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of her students, demonstrating her adaptability and commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.

Lara is a dedicated and versatile English language instructor with a strong background in the arts and she has a passion for education. She brings a unique blend of creativity and communication skills to her teaching, making her classes engaging and dynamic. A native level speaker of English and Portuguese, Lara can also speak Spanish and German which makes her adept at connecting with students from various linguistic backgrounds, creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Her strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills enable her to effectively tailor lessons to meet individual student needs. Lara excels in creating a supportive learning environment that caters to students' individual needs, helping them build confidence in their English communication skills. Her teaching philosophy emphasises adaptability, motivation, and a student-centred approach, whilst ensuring that each lesson is tailored to the individual learners' levels and interests.

Kelly started her teaching career back in 2007 as a nursery teacher in Birmingham, England. Since moving to Macao in 2008, she has worked with English for Asia on a wide variety of projects at our Learning Centre, including Toddler Playgroup, phonics, general English classes, and a weekly community outreach “Storytime” programme. Kelly also co-authored the kindergarten curriculum for our after-school ENGLISH CLUB programme.

Aside from her work in our centre, Kelly has taught interactive English courses to students at a number of kindergartens in Macao. She is a popular teacher due to her adaptability, good classroom management, and engaging learner-centred lessons, which the students really enjoyed.

B.Ed, TESOL

Vanessa started her teaching career in 2020 and is a kind and compassionate educator who strives to create an engaging, supportive, and accommodating learning environment where all children can learn successfully. Vanessa has taught conversational English to students ranging from kindergarten to junior high school, catering to a variety of proficiency levels. Vanessa's teaching philosophy goes beyond simply imparting knowledge; she aims to encourage students to pursue their interests and develop their unique talents by participating actively.

Mitchell is an experienced teacher with a broad knowledge of curriculums offered worldwide. He is a firm believer of Phonics as a method to help students master the sounds of English and to become independent readers and writers of English. Mitch has worked at numerous schools in Macao, teaching English to both students and staff. At our Learning Centre Mitch teaches students with a range of proficiency levels, ranging from Beginner to Advanced. Mitchell has a keen interest in politics and current events. He is also an animal lover, enjoys gardening and has a wide collection of model trains.

BA, Trinity CertTESOL 

Carol is a graduate of the CertTESOL course from Trinity College London. Since joining English for Asia in September 2025, she has taught communicative English lessons in kindergarten and primary schools in Macao. With a strong background in photography and theatre, she has a genuine passion for education and firmly believes that drama and art are powerful tools for effective language teaching. Her diverse experience in creative environments, both locally and internationally, has refined her ability to tailor instructional methods to meet the unique needs of each student, offering a fresh perspective with strong communication skills and a dedicated work ethic. During her teaching career, Carol developed reusable lesson plans for multinational learners aged 18 to 65, covering language proficiency levels from A1 to B2. She has taught online via Zoom and currently teaches comprehension and grammar to students aged 6 to 14.
